Estancia Harberton

This was the first estate in the province, founded in 1886 by the Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges.

Harberton, the first estancia in Tierra del Fuego, is located 85 km. east of Ushuaia. It can be reached by taking Route 3 and the “J” Road (40 km of paved road and 45 km of gravel) or by sea. It is a historic spot and the current owners are the descendants of Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges, who lived in peace alongside the indigenous residents at the turn of the 20th century. After visiting the estate, you can also visit the Acatushún Museum (which displays skeletons of birds and sea mammals of South America), Martillo Island and its penguin colony, the estate house (a national historic monument), and go on guided walks.
